Marsades, who goes by Sadie, was born in 1995 and is a sweet young lady who is a very creative. Reading, writing and drawing are some of her favorite activities. Like most children her age, she read the Harry Potter books and saw all of the movies. She is excited for the final movie to come out on DVD so she can see it.

Sadie identifies church as one of her favorite places to go. She attends weekly and also goes to church camps in the summer. She often listens to religious based music and likes to sing along to her CDs and tapes. She also lists the Backstreet Boys as a favorite musical group.

In many ways, Sadie is a girly-girl. She likes to have her hair done and says her favorite color is pink. However, when it comes to her clothes, Sadie says she always wears pants or jeans. She doesn’t like skirts or dresses.

John has learned the importance of responsibility and can take a part in helping with household chores, such as laundry and cleaning his room. John says he enjoys school. His favorite subject is science. John currently receives special education services. He is making gains in his schoolwork. He rarely wants to stay in and watch TV. Even when it is cold outside, John says he would rather be outdoor than inside.

The best family for John would be one who will be patient and understanding. John may need more time to transition to an adoptive family so that his trust in the family can built. A family who would be willing to participate in mental health treatment to help John continue his therapeutic work would also be important. John has made great growth over the past few years and it would be important for that work continue in an adoptive home. A family that is willing to allow John to continue to have contact with his sister is necessary as well.

Aurel is ready for the right forever family!
by AFFME on Tuesday, December 18 2007
Aurel, or Aury as he prefers to be called, is a bright, energetic boy born in 1996. He enjoys a variety of activities and enjoys having people around him to engage with.

Aury was born in Romania and has experienced many trials in his young life. But the quality that stands out in him, in the experience of the providers who work most closely with him, is his wonderful resilience. Aury wakes up every morning with a determination to stay positive, to stay hopeful and to be a good child. He outward demeanor is usually cheerful and he still trusts grownups to know what is best for him. He does his chores and his morning routine with just a few prompts, and he sometimes offers to do extra chores to help out around the house. He is generally well behaved in school and his foster home. He accepts teaching from adults when they show him a better way; he’s affectionate and he’s very honest.

Aury is clear about the difference between living in a foster home and belonging to a family. And this little boy wants very much to belong to a family. In Aury’s words, “any family will do”. He feels ready to love any family that chooses him, and his service providers are confident that Aury is ready for adoption and ready to attach himself to a “forever family”.

Aury is interested in seeing the world. Geography and travel are interests of Aury’s, perhaps because he has lived on two continents. He enjoys nature, playing outside, and this summer, he taught himself how to swim and dive. Aury also has positive thoughts about his future. One day, he told his foster mother he wanted to be a doctor and go back to Romania to help the sick people in his family. On another day, he said he wanted to be a veterinarian.

Aury is very interested in dinosaurs and prehistoric times. He is naturally curious and interested in the world around him. He is interested in religion and will talk about his beliefs openly.

In school, Aury enjoys reading and being read to. He learns best when things are taught to him verbally and he has great verbal skills. He is in a self-contained classroom during the school day to provide him the direct teaching he needs to be successful. His teachers indicate he is enjoyable to have in their class.

Aury’s peers and the professionals who work with him believe Aury is very fun to be around. He has a great sense of humor and keeps people laughing. He adapts easily and is ready to connect with people. Aury is engaging in individual therapy and uses the time well to help him process things that are difficult for him. It is important for this therapy to continue, and initially, it would be beneficial for an adoptive family to remain in contact with his current therapist to assist with the transition.

The best family for Aury would be one that can provide him with consistency and encouragement. A patient family who has a good sense of humor and can “roll with the punches” will fit well with Aury’s personality. A family will have to be accepting of Aury’s limitations, but also encouraging of him to reach his full potential. It will take Aury some time to feel confident in a new family, but the professionals who work with Aury are confident that he can grow up to be a loyal family member. An adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.

When she was nine, she choreographed a dance and performed it for her family. Samantha has attended dance, theater and wilderness adventure camps and enjoyed them all. She likes learning new creative outlets and ideas.

Samantha is a very social young lady. Like most girls her age, Samantha likes to hang out with her friends, listen to music, watch TV or just chat. Her friends consider her a good listener and very caring. Samantha is very likeable and makes friends easily. She is ready to help her friends when she can. She will also help out around the house. She is learning how to cook. Samantha is working hard on keeping her room clean, and she is getting better at staying organized.

Samantha loves animals. She has had a goldfish since the summer and is the only person responsible for it’s care. She cleans the tank, feeds the fish and changes it’s water. She even thought of a creative name for the fish…she calls him Bear. Samantha also recently caught a frog in the yard and came home to make it a frog house. She took much time, energy and imagination to design the frog house. However, once she realized the frog would be happier and healthier outside, she returned the frog to the yard.

Samantha will benefit greatly from a family that can provide her with a sense of belonging. She would like a family that would keep her involved in the activities she loves. Samantha will do best in a family that is active and enjoys doing things together. An adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.

Creative Julia is ready for a forever family!
by AFFME on Tuesday, December 18 2007
Julia, born in 1993, is an affectionate young lady who enjoys arts and crafts, shopping and spending time with her friends. Julia is interested in the same things all teenaged girls are interested in…talking, shopping and listening to music!

Julia is quite creative and artistic. She especially likes to knit and scrapbook, but enjoys most arts and crafts projects. Julia likes to go shopping and will usually buy clothes when she goes to the mall. Her favorite color is pink.

Due to some of her life experiences Julia is behind in school, but she makes up for that by working very hard and having the desire to succeed. Because of her determination Julia was able to skip to a grade that was more age appropriate for her. She does receive special education support to help her continue to catch up to her peers. She has a strong desire to go to college and become a caseworker.

The best family for Julia would be one that can be supportive to her as she learns how to have healthy relationships and grieves all the losses she has experienced. A family would need to show Julia that they can provide structure, follow through, and make sure that Julia knows that they will always be there for her. Julia enjoys younger children and animals, but would also do well as an only child. Julia has a grandmother and sister that she sees regularly, and she would expect this to continue in an adoptive family. An adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.

Jimmy and Ashley are awaiting a loving adoptive family!
by AFFME on Tuesday, December 18 2007
Jimmy, born in 1994, and Ashley, born in 1995, are in need of a forever family! Ashley and Jimmy have a team working with them who are committed to identifying a forever home where the children can be together and experience the security and love that only a permanent family can provide. They have been through a lot together and keeping them together in an adoptive home is very important.

Jimmy is a handsome young man who has a good sense of humor. During the past year Jimmy has really begun to enjoy playing out of doors. In the past he has preferred playing video games and playing with his game boy. However, his current foster parents have encouraged him to play outside and to try different activities. As a result, he now enjoys being outside, riding his bike and swimming. Jimmy also takes therapeutic horseback riding lessons, which he really enjoys.

Ashley is a young lady who is quite adventurous. She loves playing outside with her friends. She too has enjoyed taking horseback riding lessons. In addition, she is beginning her second year of participating on a swim team. During the past year her foster family has provided the opportunity for her to have many different experiences and have found her to be open to trying just about anything. She has enjoyed going camping, snow skiing, swimming etc. She has requested a family that is active and “energetic”.

Ashley and Jimmy enjoy animals. In addition to their affection for horses, they have also done very well with the dogs and cats that they have lived with throughout the years.

Jimmy and Ashley both struggle a bit in school. They both receive special education services. Their adoptive parents will need to be actively involved in their school programming as well as in assisting the children with their school work in the evenings.

Ashley and Jimmy will do best in a family that is very patient and has time to do activities that will help them to bond as a family. Spending individual time with each child is also important. Their family must realize that the children will test their commitment. Participating in therapy that is focused on building their relationships is also strongly recommended. An adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family.
